The MNIST dataset consists of small, 28 x 28 pixels, images of handwritten numbers that is annotated with a label indicating the correct number. Starting with this dataset is good for anybody who want to try learning techniques and pattern recognition methods on real-world data while spending minimal efforts on preprocessing and formatting.
