Default effect

Default effect is the tendency for people to accept the default options or parameters.

Example: An AI platform can suggest you to use a BERT model for text data in Swedish language but you might need to use multilingual BERT instead.

How to prevent default effect

Make sure that you don’t accept the default settings blindly and do not always leave them as they are. Although the default settings might be right or a good starting point, you should be aware of what those settings are and how you can change them potentially.

You should justify that

  • The parameters suggested fit or do not fit with your model and data

  • The choice of model fits with your data and parameters.
